ELAINE HAMMERSTEIN
Elaine Hammerstein was an actress from the 1910s to the 1920s. She made her first movie, "The Moonstone" in 1915, and was a leading lady through 1926. She had married director Alan Crosland the year before, and in 1926, she retired. They soon divorced, but she quickly remarried the Los Angeles Police Commissioner. They were on a driving trip to Mexico 22 years later, when the car they were in was in a head-on collision, and she died in 1948 at the age of 51.
