EL BRENDEL
El Brendel (also known as "The Synthetic Swede") was a popular comedian from the 1920s through the 1950s. He was born Elmer Brendel (some say "Brendle"), so El Brendel is not as much a stretch from his given name as one might suppose!; he was a former vaudevillian who specialized in playing a Swedish man who spoke heavily accented English, and he appeared in around 50 comedies in a 10 year span from the late 1920s to the late 1930s. Among the more enjoyable movies he was in are Wings, The Slippery Pearls, The Big Trail, Valley of the Giants, Little Miss Broadway, and Gallant Sons. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 74.
