Sydney Greenstreet was an English stage and movie actor from the 1900s to the 1940s. He first acted on the English stage in 1902 in "Sherlock Holmes" (in a supporting role as a murderer), and he appeared in plays from then until the 1930s, mostly with Lunt and Fontanne in the Theatre Guild. In 1941, he made his film debut at the age of 62 (weighing around 300 pounds) in The Maltese Falcon (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) and the following year, he appeared in Casablanca (as Signor Ferrari). He appeared in 23 other Warner Bros. movies through 1949 at which point he retired, and he passed away in 1954 at the age of 74.
