WOODY HERMAN
Woody Herman (born Woodrow Charles Herman) was a clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader from the 1930s to the 1980s, who also appeared in a few movies. He led several different bands over the years, each of which was called "The Herd". His bands often played music that was cutting edge and experimental, and their recordings received numerous Grammy nominations. Some of his movies include: Hit Parade of 1947, What's Cookin'? and Earl Carroll Vanities. He had a business manager who mismanaged his money in the 1960s, and he owed the IRS millions, and he kept performing well into the 1980s, because he was in danger of eviction from his home. He passed away in 1987 at the age of 74.
